Are you a SIM? (Single In Mid-Life)

If so, you are in great company! There are roughly 34.4 million singles in the US aged 40-69 as cited by EliteSingles.com. According to the Census Bureau, 29% of adults age 45-59 are now single, compared with only 19 percent in 1980. This 10% hike coincides with the divorce rate in this age group. The ‘until death do us part’ is increasingly being re-phrased in today’s wedding vows with couples opting for a more forgiving ‘as long as our love shall last’ view. It appears the love seems to start to fade about the same time the mid-life crisis takes shape. Instead of a shiny new car, more are taking the route of a crisp new divorce decree. To be honest, most of us did not intend to be here. Starting over in mid-life can be scary and even frustrating. It may be comforting to know others are with you on the same Singles Highway. You are not traipsing out here kicking up a lone trail of dust like a Mad Max movie. There is a community of folks all around dealing with the same situation. There is a lot of leaning on and helping out to be a part of, with a beautiful opportunity to make new friends, try new adventures and live life on your own terms. Embrace your new (or not so new) status as a SIM starting now!!

My first answer would be a Yes. I believe when we meet someone for the first time, we make an assessment in the first 10-15 minutes, possibly less, whether or not we feel an attraction. Mid-Life Crisis – SIM Style ‘Back in the day’, having a mid-crisis either meant buying a fast new shiny car or having a scandalous affair. Now, with 34+ million of us SIMs (Single In Mid-Life) running around in 2017, the times they are a’changing. Those of us who want a new shiny car already have one, and we’ll take travel and adventure over scandal any day. So what does today’s crisis look like?  Anxiety.
